This one-bedroom apartment overlooking the river in Worcester had a small, north-facing kitchen that felt darker and tighter than its footprint suggested. The owner wanted a surface that would throw light around the room and make the galley layout feel open and calm.
Ivory Lumina — a near-white quartz with a barely-there warm undertone and a subtle crystalline sparkle — was the natural choice. Across the compact galley run and a slim peninsula, the bright, almost seamless surface reflects the daylight coming off the water and visually dissolves the boundaries of the small space. The near-uniform tone means the eye never snags, which makes the kitchen read as larger than it is.
We kept the fabrication deliberately restrained: a clean 20mm edge throughout, a slim 20mm upstand instead of a fussy splashback, and a single undermount sink so the worktop stays unbroken. The peninsula overhangs by 300mm on a discreet steel bracket to create a two-seat breakfast perch without stealing floor space.
