Set within our own Oldbury studio just off the B69 3EU trade estate, this show kitchen was designed to demonstrate exactly what Calacatta Eclipse can do at full scale. The brief was simple: one slab, used everywhere, so specifiers can read the veining as a continuous story rather than isolated offcuts.
The centrepiece is a 3.2-metre island finished with a mitred 100mm waterfall on both ends, giving the impression of a single solid block of stone. Because Eclipse carries a soft grey vein against a warm-white ground, we bookmatched the island top with the run behind it so the veining mirrors across the walkway. The perimeter worktops step down to a 20mm profile to keep the sightlines calm and let the island lead the eye.
A full-height splashback in the same slab runs from the worktop to the underside of the wall units, replacing tiles entirely and removing every grout line from the cooking zone. The polished finish was chosen over honed so the West Midlands showroom lighting could bounce off the surface and reveal the depth of the vein — critical for a display piece.
Calacatta Eclipse was selected because it delivers the drama of natural Calacatta marble without the etching, staining and sealing that make marble impractical in a working kitchen. For a room that hosts trade visitors every week, that durability is the whole point.
